Wha's Like Us:
There has been more major inventions come from the Scots than any other country in the World per head of population. For example  John Williams, born Glasgow, developed the vaccine against smallpox. Alexander Graham Bell, born in Edinburgh, invented the telephone. John Logie Baird, born Helensburgh, invented the television. John Boyd Dunlop, born Scotland, patented the pneumatic tyre, & so the list goes on, so why not have a wee look & ask yourself Wha's Like Us?....Alba Gu Brath

World Cup Babes:
Now here's a great photo of some gorgeous Swedish fans doing whatever they bloody well want actually, leave them alone they know what they're doing, anyway this photo is just one of some lovely lady fans @ the World Cup, so sit back put your feet up & look at the loveliness!!!!....Alba Gu Brath

Scotland's Goal Against France:
For those of you unable to get a ticket for the game against France & would like to have sampled the atmosphere first hand, here's the chance you've been waiting for. A great wee clip of the reaction from the Scotland supporters when the ball hit the back of the net, what a great moment, enjoy.....Alba Gu Brath

Italia 90:
Found a great wee website about  one Tartan Army foot soldier's account of Italia 90, he takes us through the three games against Brazil, Costa Rica & Sweden with photographs & some brilliant observations, relive the highs & lows, the might have beens & the has beens through one fans eyes....Alba Gu Brath

Haggis Tosser:
For those of you out there in Cyberland who are fed up tossing the caber, how about tossing a haggis, c'mon folks mind out of the gutter please!!! This great wee game is so very addictive so be warned. The harder you pull the further they fly, but remember that they're skittish creatures & like their own space, it's a bit like curling only more fun, my high score so far is 150, have fun.....Alba Gu Brath

Death Of Our Language?
One of the strongest claims a people can make to nationhood is that they have their own language. It has been said that a nation is a dialect with its own army. For a people whose political independence exists only in the past, a unique tongue used among themselves is both a cultural safe deposit box for the present and a potential rallying point for the future. Scotland is unlike other countries in this respect, since English, its present first language, is the native tongue of numerous other states around the world. But Scots are right to seek assurance of their separate identity in their language, for Scottish English is unique, and very different from the English of England, America or Australia. There are two ways that varieties of the same language can differ. The first is in pronunciation: What kind of accent does a person have? The other is in dialect. What words, and what ways of forming sentences, are unlike those of other English speakers?.

World Cup Final In Pictures:
Well it wasn't the best World Cup Finals I've ever seen, but as far as the final went I think Italy maybe just about earned it. Here for your viewing pleasure is the story of the final in pictures, I have over 140 of these photos in a much higher resolution than I'm showing, so if you took these pics or know where they came from let me know so I can credit you. I found them on a site with no info about them whatsoever. If you'd like to see any of these @ a higher resolution again let me know. Congratulations to Italy on becoming the new World Champions, & we look forward to playing them in the forthcoming campaign....Alba Gu Brath

How Scottish Are You?:
Here's a wee competition for you folks out there in cyberland,  It's very easy to play, there's no minimum height requirement or anything, just click on the six faces you see & guess by their accents which parts of Scotland they come from, guess all six correctly & your prize will be unveiled (Scotland's unofficial World Cup song actually) so go on, have a go you know you want to, this competition is brought to you by the makers of Scottish Quest, a board game that I thoroughly recommend....Alba Gu Brath

The Celts:
Want to know a little more about the Celts?, their history  culture  is celebrated here by National Geographics Jim Richardson, it's a rather personal & unique journey by this talented photographer, listen to his story while you look at his wonderful images, all in all a wonderful little snapshot of the Celts role in society today & in the past...Alba Gu Brath

Battle Of Byland:
I normally like to edit a lot of the historical pieces I find or get sent for the site & give credit to the source, but not this time, Niall U'Aislainn has written a marvellous account on the "Forgotten Battle Of Byland" This is a great story of a victory of Bruce's that is little remembered, maybe not as victorious as Bannockburn but it was a massive embarrassment to the English, with their King narrowly avoiding capture by fleeing in his nightclothes leaving behind all his worldly goods. Niall's account is just part of a wonderful site dedicated to Nigel Tranter's works. Enjoy....Alba Gu Brath

Learn Scottish Gaelic "Beag air Bheag":
If like me you are interested in all aspects of our history & culture you might just enjoy this wee site. As much as I hate to promote anything from the BBC, but I have to grudgingly give them credit for this great site on learning Gaelic. It's easy to learn useful phrases & you can actually hear the phrase being spoken to you as you learn, what could be easier, go on you know you want to!!!!....Alba Gu Brath

Jock Stein, The Life & Times:
When Jock Stein collapsed and died amid the hubbub of Ninian Park, Cardiff, in 1985, Scotland lost not only a national team manager, but a figure whose influence on the domestic scene was immense and dramatic. Although the tempo of the Scotland job was better suited to Stein in the latter part of his career, given his background of uncertain health, he nevertheless felt the strain....Alba Gu Brath

Ally Macleod, The Life & Times:
"Ally MacLeod was one of life's optimists, he wore his heart on his sleeve and told you what he felt, he was as much a supporter as you and I but he had the best seat in the stadium, football is a far emptier place without him." T.S.O.S spokesman George Boyle....Alba Gu Brath

David R. Ross - On The Trail Of Wallace:
If you visit this little site of ours regularly you'll probably know I'm just back from a little holiday in the States, I met some great people & had a wonderful time, anyway I digress, one of the things I enjoy about holidays is it gives me a chance to catch up on some reading. I don't often recommend books 'cause everyone takes different things from books they've read & what I like wont necessarily appeal to everyone else, but I have no problem recommending this book to anyone with an interest in William Wallace, I thought it was brilliant, read it in two days, for me that's very fast for a book that doesn't have cartoons in it...enjoy.

Dear Old Hampden:
Having a look at Hampden park through the ages, I'd actually forgotten what the Dear Old Lady used to look like. I for one am not exactly a fan of the new stadium, for the money we spent you could have had the Millennium Stadium in Wales for instance but I suppose even then we'd probably moan about that as well wouldn't we???

Third Lanark, Cathkin Park:
Decided to take a wee trip out to Cathkin Park just behind Hampden, home of the Hi Hi, as I stood on the old terraces where so many thousands of fans , young & old had stood before me I had an overwhelming feeling of sadness that a once vibrant stadium had come to a rather unfitting end, although I'm pleased that it still stands in memory to the pleasure it gave in the past, it really is a place you should visit for yourselves, a wee bit eerie, by the way look out for the local wildlife...Alba Gu Brath.

Sally's Tat:
I'd like to thank Sally from the Albannach forum for this months featured tattoo. I think it's one of the nicest thistle tattoos I've seen. Sally lives in a small town in Massachusetts & is a first generation American, her Mum was born in Edinburgh but her family has longstanding Glasgow roots. Her Dad was born in England, but of Scots descent & this tattoo was done to recognize Sally's pride in her Scots ancestry of which she is very, very proud. A keen reader, the pursuit of knowledge, and researching her family tree are among some of her interests, music being another, classical, new age, native American & lots lots more but particularly likes Albannach. Aye, the lassie has taste.....Alba Gu Brath
