SGoals from Wolfgang Mair and Michael Morz consigned Scotland to their second defeat in a row in the 2005 Future Cup.
Debutant Sam Parkin lasted just 23 minutes before being forced off and fellow new face Steven Watt conceded the foul that led to the opening goal.

Mair headed home from Morz's free kick and then the pair switched roles after the break, when Morz drove home from the edge of the penalty area.

Craig Beattie fired in the Scots' only reply with six minutes remaining.

Scotland manager Walter Smith had been left with only 16 fit players from which to choose for the match at the Pappelstadion.

And he handed starts to Swindon Town striker Parkin and Chelsea defender Watt, who had both been late additions to the squad.

The Scots were under pressure from the start, when a free-kick fired in by Andreas Schrott was turned round the post for a corner by goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Scott Severin fired over from just outside the box at the other end, while captain Andy Webster headed wide.

Parkin limped off, to be replaced with Shaun Maloney, and Austria took a 30th-minute lead after the 19-year-old Watt was penalised.

Mair sent a flicked-on header from Morz's free-kick bouncing past Gordon's left hand and into the net.

The visitors almost equalised from a corner after Webster headed goalward and Maloney and then Watt just failed to connect in front of goal.

Gordon pulled off a double save to deny Sebastian Martinez, who had fired in a fierce, rising drive.

The Hearts goalkeeper parried the ball upwards and recovered to tip it over before it dropped into the net.

Gordon was beaten from the corner when Andreas Schrott headed goalwards, but Ian Murray headed off the line.

Gyorgy Garics tested Gordon soon after the break with a drive from the right of the box that the keeper parried clear.

Morz made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, firing low past Gordon from just outside the box after taking a pass from Mair.

The Scots, who lost 3-0 to Germany in December as part of the five-nation competiton, attempted to retaliate.

And Webster headed goalwards from a corner only to see goalkeeper Thomas Mandl gather.

Beattie did net a consolation effort in the 84th minute, firing past substitute goalkeeper Thomas Borenitsch after a long-ranger from Severin cannoned back off a post.
