Sunday 17th December was the day that we chose to unveil a plaque and hold a commemoration ceremony in memory of the Jacobites who fell at the Battle of Clifton Moor on 18th December 1745. We assembled at St Cuthbert's church on Clifton main street at 12 o'clock and marched down the main street to the grave site under the tree where we unveiled a plaque and laid a wreath, a new fence and gate to the site was erected allowing access to the gravestone as previously you had to climb a dilapidated fence to pay respects. I met some lovely people & it was pleasing to see so many people there, it's good to know our boys are not forgotten, as the plaque says, "We wina forget ye" |
